Asamura Patent Office Celebrates 130th Anniversary, Founded at the Encouragement of Mr. Korekiyo Takahashi

Asamura Patent Office, founded on the recommendation of Mr. Korekiyo Takahashi (1854-1936), the first first Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office, celebrated its 130th anniversary on October 25.

The firm was founded in 1891 by Saburo Asamura, an examiner at the Patent Office, who resigned from his position as a government official, believing that in order to promote the development of Japanese industry, one should stimulate inventive ideas and promote creative intelligence. In the early days of the foundation, Mr. Takahashi, who was concerned about the future the first private patent agency in Japan, would occasionally visit the office.

In addition to serving as a Prime Minister, Mr. Takahashi also served as a Governor of the Bank of Japan and Minister of Finance (now Ministry of Finance) and was known as the “guardian angel of Japanese finance industry.” During his time as a Minister of Finance, he was killed in the February 26 Incident by rebels led by a young officer who opposed Mr. Takahashi’s fiscal policy. A commemorative photo of Mr. Takahashi and Mr. Asamura taken in the office of the Minister of Finance two years before the February 26 Incident is now displayed in the reception hall in our office.

In order to live up to the wishes of the founders of the firm and the trust our clients have placed in us over the years, we will continue to use our experience and knowledge to offer the best IP services, as well as rovide comprehensive consulting services related to intellectual property.
