Patent, trademark and renewal registration fees will be revised on April 1, 2022 (follow-up report)

A Cabinet decision has been made to issue a Cabinet Order to specify the effective date of the Act for Partial Revision of the Patent Act. This Cabinet Order includes provisions for the revision of patent fees, which will come into effect on April 1, 2022.

In accordance with the enforcement of the Act, in order to establish the amount of patent fees, etc., and to improve the provisions of related Cabinet Orders, the Cabinet approved the Order on December 21, 2021. Specifically, patent, trademark registration, and renewal registration fees, etc. will be increased. That also includes fees related to international applications for patents and utility models, and individually designated fees for international applications for trademark registration will be increased.

Please note that the fees will be revised only for patents, trademarks, and international applications, and not for utility models and designs. Please refer to the table below for the revised fees for patent (annuity), trademark registration, and renewal registration fees, as well as the revised fees for international applications:
