The European Patent Office (EPO) has announced that it will revise its official fees effective April 1, 2023.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Please note that this is a significant revision, with almost double of increase (4%-6%) compared to the previous revision (April 1, 2022). Normally fees are revised every two years, however, this time the revision will be made one year after the last revision.

\r\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

1. Enforcement and application<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Article 2 of the Regulation on Rates, revised on December 14, 2022, will enter into force on April 1, 2023. The new fees will apply to payments made on or after April 1, 2023. Please note that the fees for international applications will apply to payments made on or after April 1, 2023, so please consider early filing and early processing.
\r\n
\r\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

2. Exceptions<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

If payment is made at the pre-revision official fee within 6 months of April 1, 2023, i.e., by September 30, 2023, the fee will be considered paid if the difference with the new fee is paid within 2 months of the notification from the EPO that the fee is paid at the pre-revision fee.
