Patent Attorney (Chemical)

Morio Niimura is a patent attorney working in the Chemical Department of Asamura Patent Office, p.c. Since joining the firm in 1998, he has accumulated fifteen years of experience in patent applications (domestic patent applications, patent applications from abroad, patent applications for foreign countries, and applications to register patent term extensions) in the pharmaceuticals and chemicals fields.

As a fourth-year General Medicinal Chemistry student at Chiba University and throughout three years of graduate school, Mr. Niimura researched the effects of metal ions on carcinogenicity and mutagenicity factors by environmental chemical substances (nitrosamine and nitropyrene) based on the amounts of chemical bonding to the DNA of living organisms (which can be rolled out using a glass rod). He has been a member of the Japanese Cancer Association since 1984.

At Denki Kagaku Kogyo K.K., Mr. Niimura was mainly involved in the purification and analysis of bioactive proteins found in the immune system, and has also been involved in areas ranging from raw material procurement (urine samples from Chinese people in tonne units and one thousand pig kidneys) to Phase III clinical trials (visits to major hospitals in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions). He has also done work on generic drug approvals.

Mr. Niimura passed the Patent Attorney Examination in 2005 and promptly joined the Japan Patent Attorney Association (JPAA), of which he is still currently a member.
