Senior Managing Partner



Patent attorney Ken Kanai is Senior Managing Partner of Asamura Patent Office, p.c., and joined the company in January 2005.
Mr. Kanai's work covers a wide range of patent applications in mechanical fields, including manufacturing equipment, products, internal combustion engines, and medical equipment.
He was responsible for establishing Asamura Patent Office, p.c. in 2008, and handles business arrangements both inside and outside of the firm.

Served many times as chairman of in-house committees.

In charge of moving when firm relocated in June 2011. Appointed Vice-President in July 2011.

Served as executive committee chairman of the 120th Anniversary Seminar in November 2011, the firm's first large-scale seminar, where he was instrumental in the planning and management of the event and helped make it a success.

Management Meetings Chairman since April 2012.

In charge of the firm's operations at WIND EXPO 2013 in February 2013, marking the firm's first trade show appearance.

In his former career as a systems engineer, Mr. Kanai was mainly involved in developing factory automation systems, overseeing system construction, and engineering work. He was constantly aware of how should be done in order to satisfy customer needs, resulting in an improved skill set.

Mr. Kanai's experience includes serving a variety of roles within the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA). As a member of the JPAA Patent Committee, he reviewed requests for revising evaluation criteria for Japan Patent Office and the current unity of application requirements.

Thanks to work from the JPAA as well, in 2013 the Japan Patent Office's criteria for examining the unity of application requirements was changed.
